ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions will host Glasgow Tigers in the first leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway this Friday (September 11) at 7,30pm.

The date of the second leg at Glasgow will be confirmed in due course.

The two teams finished very close in the final league table, with Glasgow in second place and Scunthorpe in third place, with matters not decided until Heat 15 at Glasgow last Friday.

The aggregate winners will progress to the Grand Final, which will determine the league champions of the Cab Direct Championship. Scunthorpe are chasing a second second-tier league title, in addition to the one they won 14 years ago in 2012.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “The whole season builds up to this moment. The play-off semi-final is the biggest meeting of the season so far at the Eddie Wright Raceway, but we want to get through to the final and have an even bigger date.

“We need our supporters there in both number and in fine voice, as our riders look to build up a lead that we can defend at Glasgow for the second leg.

“Every point will be vital and will be fought over on Friday and our riders will give everything.

“Our riders have defied expectations to reach the play-offs this season – many people wrote us off, but we’ve proved them wrong. But we don’t want to stop here. We know we’re capable of beating anyone over two legs. It’s going to be an exciting evening against Glasgow at the EWR on Friday and it’s a date no-one can afford to miss.”

Accompanied children are FREE for the meeting, while there will also be a kids race during the evening.

More news during the week, as the build-up to Friday’s huge clash continues.
