Woffinden Announces Retirement

Tai Woffinden

When Tai Woffinden first pulled on the Scunthorpe Scorpions race jacket in 2006, few could have imagined the incredible journey that lay ahead. From the moment he arrived, his speed, determination and fearless style marked him out as a rider destined for greatness.

As a teenager, Tai played a huge part in one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. In 2006, he helped the Scorpions complete a clean sweep of Conference League honours, lifting the League Championship, Knockout Cup, Conference Trophy and Conference Shield. He returned in 2007 to help the club win another League Championship, the Knockout Cup, the Conference Trophy and the Four-Team Championship, while also claiming the Conference League Riders’ Championship.

The signs of what was to come were there for everyone to see. Tai thrilled Scunthorpe supporters with a string of outstanding performances, including a 14-point haul against Newport in 2006, a magnificent paid maximum in the Conference League Riders’ Championship-winning season, and several unbeaten displays where he led the Scorpions from the front in crucial meetings.

Those performances were just the beginning. Tai went on to become one of the greatest riders British speedway has ever produced, winning three Speedway World Championships, multiple British Championships and becoming a true global ambassador for the sport. But no matter how high he climbed, Scunthorpe supporters have always taken great pride in knowing that part of his remarkable journey began here.

Now, following his retirement from professional speedway after an extraordinary career, we simply want to say thank you. Thank you for the unforgettable memories, the breathtaking racing, and for showing the world what a young lad who started his British career at Scunthorpe could achieve.

Everyone at Scunthorpe Scorpions wishes Tai, Faye and all the Woffinden family the very best for the future. We hope retirement brings happiness, good health and plenty of new adventures.

Once a Scorpion, always a Scorpion.

Thank you, Tai.
