ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions head to Redcar tonight (Friday at 7pm) and Workington tomorrow (Saturday at 6pm) in two away Cab Direct Championship fixtures – looking to improve on their performances at the same two circuits in the BSN Series.

Scorpions defeated Glasgow by 49-41 at the Eddie Wright Raceway last Friday, but it’s six weeks before they return to action at home. In the meantime, they have four away meetings – commencing with the two this weekend, before visits to Scotland to Edinburgh and Glasgow in June. Scorpions will want to take something from these four meetings.

Scorpions are due to be at full strength at Redcar’s ECCO Arena, while Redcar Bears give a club debut to former Scunthorpe legend Simon Lambert, who replaces Jordan Jenkins.

Speaking in the post-match press conference after the win over Glasgow, Scorpions’ team manager David Howe said: “The team is working well as a unit and improving all the time.

“Ryan Ingram is having a sensational time around Scunthorpe and it’s doing wonders for his confidence. Josh Pickering is such a brilliant captain and leading by example, such as Heat 15 [against Glasgow] when he seemed to materialise from nowhere on the third bend to shoot around Kyle Howarth and pin him on the inside and make sure he took a 5-1 with Ryan.

“We got battered at Redcar earlier in the year, and we want to give a better account of ourselves this time around and give Redcar a match.

“As for Workington, we were close there, but Comets had a guest in Cooper Rushen at reserve who swung it their way at the end of the meeting. I don’t see why we can’t pick up a win.”
