Scorpions head north of the border

Edinburgh Monarchs vs Scunthorpe Scorpions

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are looking for another impressive away performance at Edinburgh’s Armadale Stadium tonight (Friday) at 7.30pm.

A fortnight ago, Scunthorpe took a notable 48-42 victory at Redcar, before just missing out in a 44-46 narrow defeat at Workington which nevertheless places Scorpions in an excellent position for the aggregate bonus point.

Another away win tonight against Edinburgh Monarchs would take Scorpions to the top of the Cab Direct Championship table.

16-year-old Ryan Ingram, currently in sensational form, is not available, since he is sitting an exam. However, Scorpions have booked Dayle Wood as a guest – not only does he ride for Edinburgh Monarchs Academy in the National League, but he scored 11+1 for Oxford in a Cab Direct Championship clash at Armadale.

Scorpions will use rider replacement for the injured Dan Gilkes, while Nick Morris will guest for Paco Castagna for Monarchs.

Edinburgh is the former track of Scorpions’ No 1 Josh Pickering.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey said: “Our lads put in two terrific performances at Redcar and Workington that have really set up our season nicely. We won’t rest on our laurels and we’re looking for another good away result at Edinburgh.”

Expected teams for tonight:

Edinburgh Monarchs: 1. Dan Thompson, 2. Jonathan Grahn, 3. Justin Sedgmen (C), 4. Nick Morris (guest), 5. Kye Thomson, 6. Mitch Cluff, 7. Jordy Loftus.

Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions: 1. Josh Pickering (C), 2. Connor Mountain, 3. Luke Harrison, 4. Dan Gilkes R/R, 5. Michael Palm Toft, 6. Dayle Wood (guest), 7. Nathan Ablitt.

* LUKE HARRISON and Ryan Ingram scored eight and six points respectively in the British Under-21 Final at Redcar on Sunday.

* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions are next in action at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway, when they host Plymouth Gladiators in the Cab Direct Championship on Friday, July 3 at 7.30pm.
