ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions travel to Scotland this evening (Friday), knowing that a score of 38 or more points in their second leg of their Cab Direct Championship play-off semi-final with Glasgow will clinch their first play-off final in 14 seasons.

Scorpions built up a 53-37 advantage in the first leg at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway a fortnight ago.

Scunthorpe are seeking to emulate the 2012 Scorpions, the only previous speedway team from the town to win a second-tier league title, who defeated Somerset by 92-91 in an epic play-off final.

Scunthorpe welcome Jacob Hook back from injury. Luke Harrison is riding in the European Under-19 Pairs Final in Germany this weekend, and newly-crowned British Under-19 champion Jody Scott comes in to guest for him.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “It’s nice to have a 16-point-lead, but we’re not going to be complacent or take anything for granted. I’ll be honest – I would have preferred a lead of at least 20 points.

“Our lads know what we need to do. That said, we’re not heading into the meeting thinking of scoring 38 points. To begin with, we’re just be trying to score as many points as possible and trying to win the meeting. Every 3-3 takes us closer to our aim.

“But, at the end of day, once it comes down to the business end of the meeting, we know what we need to do.”
