PROVISIONAL RULES

These rules are provisional and may be amended or updated by the organisers where necessary.

Eligible Machines

To be eligible to compete, machines must meet the following requirements:

• Must be a ride-on lawn mower or lawn tractor.

• Must retain the original chassis and overall appearance.

• The engine must remain in its original position.

• Single-cylinder engines only, with a maximum capacity of 500cc.

• Twin-cylinder engines are not permitted.

• Zero-turn mowers are not permitted.

• Commercial, diesel and front-cut machines are not permitted.

• Purpose-built racing machines, karts and quads are not permitted.

Weight Limits

• Maximum total weight, including the driver and ready to race: 300kg.

• Maximum machine weight without the driver: 220kg.

• Machines may be weighed at any time during the event.

• Any machine exceeding the permitted weight limit will be disqualified.

• Parts must not be added or removed after the machine has been weighed.

Mandatory Safety Modifications

Blades & Cutting Deck

• All cutting blades must be completely removed.

• The cutter deck must either be removed or securely fixed in position.

• There must be no sharp edges underneath the machine.

Throttle

• The throttle must automatically return to idle when released.

• Fixed throttles, including the use of cable ties, wedges or similar methods, are not permitted.

Brakes

• The machine must have working brakes.

• The brakes must be capable of bringing the machine to a safe and controlled stop.

Steering

• Steering components must be secure and responsive.

• Excessive play, movement or loose components are not permitted.

Fuel System

• The fuel tank must be securely mounted.

• There must be no fuel leaks.

• A suitable fuel cap must be fitted at all times.

Exhaust

• The exhaust must be positioned so that it points away from the driver.

• Exhaust systems producing flames or excessive sparks are not permitted.

Battery

• The battery must be securely mounted.

• Exposed battery terminals must be suitably covered.

Engine Kill Control

• The engine must be capable of being shut off quickly using a key, switch or suitable kill control.

Build Restrictions

The following restrictions apply to all competing machines:

• Roll cages are not permitted.

• Excessive reinforcement or “armouring” is not permitted.

• Additional ballast is not permitted.

• Wheels must remain reasonably close to their original width. Extreme wheel spacers are not permitted.

• Major chassis alterations are not permitted.

• The driver’s seat must be securely mounted.

• Footrests must be secure.

• Machines must have no sharp or protruding parts that could present a danger to the driver or other competitors.

Engine & Speed Control

• Standard lawn mower engines only.

• Maximum engine capacity is 500cc, single cylinder.

• Engine swaps are only permitted where a suitable lawn mower engine is used.

• Motorcycle and quad engines are not permitted.

• Turbos, nitrous systems and electric conversions are not permitted.

• Aggressive gearing or pulley modifications designed specifically to significantly increase speed are not permitted.

• The Clerk of the Course reserves the right to remove any machine considered excessively fast, unsuitable or unsafe.

Driver Safety

All drivers must comply with the following:

• A suitable helmet is mandatory. A motorcycle helmet is recommended.

• Arms and legs must be fully covered.

• Gloves are recommended.

• Sturdy, enclosed footwear must be worn.

• Drivers must not compete under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• All drivers must attend the pre-event drivers’ briefing.

Racing & Contact Rules

This is a contact form of racing; however, contact must remain controlled.

• Light contact is permitted.

• Deliberate high-speed ramming is not permitted.

• Deliberately targeting the driver’s seating area is strictly prohibited.

• Drivers must not deliberately reverse into another competitor at speed.

• Deliberately hitting a stationary or immobilised machine is not permitted.

• Dangerous or reckless driving may result in immediate disqualification.

Event Control & Scrutineering

• All machines are subject to inspection and scrutineering.

• The organisers reserve the right to refuse any machine considered unsafe or unsuitable for competition.

• Random safety and technical checks may be carried out at any time during the event.

• Any breach of these rules may result in disqualification.

• The organisers’ decision regarding safety, eligibility and interpretation of these rules is final.
