Roll Cage Requirements

Minimum Specification

At least one Acrow bar must be installed, up to a maximum of a full roll cage.

If using the single-bar option, it must:

• Be fitted centrally behind the driver’s seat.

• Be plated at the top and bottom, with a minimum of four bolts per plate.

Full Roll Cage Recommendation

A full roll cage is strongly recommended for:

• Flat-fronted vans, to provide additional protection for the driver’s feet.

LDV High-Top Fibreglass Roof Vans

For vehicles such as the LDV high-top van, a roll cage may include:

• Two vertical bars with cross bars.

• Two bars extending backwards at 45 degrees for structural stability.

Roll Cage Limitations

The roll cage must not extend beyond the vehicle’s front bulkhead.

Fibreglass Bodies

Only the roof is permitted to be made from fibreglass.

The remainder of the vehicle’s body must be made only from steel or aluminium, unless the promotion specifically allows otherwise for a particular event.

Driver’s Seat Security

The driver’s seat must be secured at shoulder height to either:

• The door pillars; or

• The roll cage, if a cage is fitted.

Engine Guards

The installation of an engine guard is permitted.

The scrutineer’s decision regarding its compliance is final.

Chassis Modifications

Vans with an Independent Chassis

The rear end of the chassis must be removed back to the rear spring hanger to allow for proper body collapse during impacts.

Water Tank Placement

If it is not possible to fit a water tank in accordance with the National Banger rules, the promoter may allow it to be installed elsewhere within the vehicle.

Engine Position and Type

• Engines must remain in their original position.

• Air-cooled ‘Plant’ type engines are not permitted.

Side Doors and Sliding Channels

• Sliding channels on side doors must be removed.

• All side doors must be either welded or bolted shut.

Weight Restrictions

• The maximum KERB weight of a competing van must not exceed 3.5 tonnes.

• The minimum KERB weight of a competing van must not be below 1.5 tonnes.

Additional Regulations

Drivers are advised to check with the promoter for any event-specific requirements.

Iveco Daily vans are no longer permitted. Ice cream van shells must not be made from fibreglass or wooden panels.
