ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions can move back to top of the Cab Direct Championship table with victory over the Redcar Bears at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, July 24) at 7.30pm.

Last Friday, Scunthorpe were involved in a thrilling 45-45 home draw with reigning champions Poole Pirates in a meeting that more than lived up to its pre-match billing. That result left Scorpions second in the table, one point behind Glasgow Tigers. But with Tigers not in action on Friday, Scorpions can re-take the advantage at the top of the standings.

Scunthorpe took a 48-42 victory at Redcar on May 29, so a victory on Friday would also present Scorpions with an aggregate bonus point. Both teams are due to be at full strength.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We need to be back on it again on Friday, with another important Cab Direct Championship fixture as we bid to close in on the play-offs.

“Redcar Bears are always good value at the Eddie Wright Raceway. It doesn’t matter how well the season is going for the two teams – it’s always a great match.

“The Bears will be delighted to have their No 1 Charles Wright back after injury and they will be looking for revenge after we beat them at their place in May.

“As far as we are concerned, 46 points is the target, we don’t need any more than that because 46 will guarantee a win and the aggregate bonus but it will obviously be a lot less stressful if we can manage a few more than 46 and avoid the need for a last-heat decider!

“There’s added spice with the return of two old Scorpions favourites in Simon Lambert and Jake Allen, who will be in the away side of the pits. Both of them have given great service to our club over many years and know their way around the EWR, but hopefully they will be on the losing side on Friday evening.”

Accompanied children are FREE for the meeting, while there will also be a kids race during the evening.
