TOP-OF-THE-TABLE Ellie Rose Travel Scunthorpe Scorpions face a huge test in the shape of reigning champions Poole Pirates in a Cab Direct Championship clash at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, July 17) at 7.30pm.

Scunthorpe moved to the top with a 52-38 home victory over Oxford last Friday. A win over Poole would keep them at the summit.

Poole Pirates have won the Cab Direct Championship league title in four out of the last five seasons. Something has to give tomorrow night, since Scunthorpe have won all of their previous four league matches at the EWR this season, while Poole have a 100 per cent record from three league matches.

Scunthorpe are due to be at full strength, with Michael Palm Toft switching to No 4 and the in-form Luke Harrison to No 5.

Poole have arguably strengthened their side by bringing Edward Kennett as a guest at reserve, in place of the injured Fraser Bowes.

Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “We have got to be on it if we want to win against Poole; there can be no passengers. We need to be on top of our game for sure.

“We know we can do it because we beat the Pirates here earlier in the season in the KO Cup and I’d like to think we are a better team now than we were then. 

“It’s going to be an absolute cracker of a meeting – I have no doubt about that. It’s going to be top-notch racing between two committed teams and it’s going to be one of the highlights of the season at the Eddie Wright Raceway and a meeting not to be missed.”

Accompanied children are FREE for the meeting, while there will also be a kids race during the evening.
