Scorpions produce superb performance to move up to second place

Scunthorpe Scorpions 57 Plymouth Gladiators 33

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions smashed old rivals Plymouth Gladiators by 57-33 at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday), as they moved up to second place in the Cab Direct Championship table.

In the first meeting at the EWR for six weeks, it was close early on and Gladiators took a 16-14 advantage after five heats after successive 5-1s.

But Scorpions re-took the lead with a 5-1 from skipper Josh Pickering and Connor Mountain over Scott Nicholls in Heat 6.

Scorpions finished the meeting with a run of eight successive heat advantages, commencing with a 4-2 from Nathan Ablitt and Mountain in Heat 8.

Scorpions really stepped on the gas between Heats 12 and 14, with three successive 5-1s. Ryan Ingram came into Heat 12, taking a reserve ride and joined Ablitt for a 5-1, then Pickering and Michael Palm Toft repeated the dose in Heat 13, as did Luke Harrison and Ingram in Heat 14.

Not only did Scunthorpe win the meeting, but they also convincingly took the aggregate bonus point.

The meeting contained some superb racing, including a fantastic battle between Harrison and Scott Nicholls. Six Scorpions won a race, the only exception being Dan Gilkes, who is riding himself back to fitness and made his first appearance for Scorpions on his return from injury.

SCUNTHORPE 57: Josh Pickering 13, Luke Harirson 11, Nathan Ablitt 10+1, Michael Palm Toft 8+1, Connor Mountain 7+1, Ryan Ingram 7+2, Dan Gilkes 1.

PLYMOUTH 33: Tate Zischke 10+2, Joe Thompson 10, Scott Nicholls 6, Daniel Klima 4+1, Anze Grmek 3+1, Tom Spencer 0, Danny King R/R.

Scunthorpe win the aggregate point.
