ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions entertain the Glasgow Tigers in the Cab Direct Championship in a meeting that is almost guaranteed to be a humdinger at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway tomorrow evening (Friday, May 22) at 7.30pm.
Scorpions started their league fixtures in the Cab Direct Championship last weekend in a positive fashion – with a thumping 59-31 home victory over Berwick followed by a narrow 41-49 defeat at Plymouth.
Glasgow are highly attractive visitors. They won the league championship in 2023 and were just a Super Heat away from winning the title again last season. Last year’s fixture between the two teams at the Eddie Wright Raceway finished 45-45 and another close meeting could be on the cards.
Tigers are led by former British Grand Prix winner Chris Harris, backed by former Scunthorpe Scorpion Kyle Howarth.
Luke Harrison is back from his concussion break, but is riding for Great Britain in the SON2 (World Under-21 Pairs Championship) on Friday night. Scorpions will again utilise rider replacement for Harrison – a facility that worked well against Berwick.
Scunthorpe promoter Rob Godfrey says: “Glasgow will be tougher opposition at the Eddie Wright Raceway than Berwick, but we are expecting the same again from our boys as last week. If we ride like that again, we will win.
“Glasgow bring some big guns with them in the likes of Chris Harris, former Scorpion Kyle Howarth and Leon Flint but we’ve got Josh Pickering now, while Michael Palm Toft has hit some form now and is backing up Josh well.
“It’s going to be a great night of action, while we’re also staging our collection for the Speedway Riders’ Benevolent Fund. There have already been some serious injuries this season, right from one of the opening meetings when Redcar’s Charles Wright was hurt. We thank everyone who contributes when the riders come around.”
Accompanied children are FREE for the meeting, while there will also be a kids race during the evening.
For those who cannot make it to the Eddie Wright Raceway, Scorpions are live streaming the meeting for just £13.99 at: https://tv.scunthorpe-speedway.co.uk/
