Scorpions edged out in close meeting at the Eddie Wright Raceway

SCUNTHORPE SCORPIONS 43 WORKINGTON COMETS 47 (BSN Series – Northern Group)

ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions’ participation in the BSN Series came to an end, after a 43-47 home defeat to Workington Comets in their final qualification meeting in the Northern Section at the Eddie Wright Raceway last night (Friday).

In a closely-fought meeting full of plenty of exciting racing, Scorpions took the lead with a 5-1 from reserves Simon Lambert and Ryan Ingram in Heat 2.

But Workington soon hit back and soon took the lead, which Comets extended to eight points after eight races. Scorpions’ skipper Josh Pickering came into Heat 9 as a tactical substitute and joined Luke Harrison for a 5-1. In the next race, Pickering was involved in another 5-1, this time with Nathan Ablitt which levelled the scores at 30-30.

Comets then led by two points into the concluding Heat 15, where an exciting race finished as a 4-2 to the visitors.

SCUNTHORPE 43: Josh Pickering 14+1, Luke Harrison 8, Michael Palm Toft 6+1, Simon Lambert 6+1, Nathan Ablitt 5+2, Connor Mountain 2+2, Ryan Ingram 2+1.

WORKINGTON 47: Jonas Jeppesen 13, Tate Zischke 13, Troy Batchelor 10+2, Jake Mulford 6, Max Perry 1, Sam Hagon 0, Craig Cook r/r.

Workington win aggregate bonus point

* ELLIE ROSE TRAVEL Scunthorpe Scorpions next race at Scunthorpe’s Eddie Wright Raceway on Friday, May 15 (at 7.30pm), when they entertain Berwick Bandits in the Cab Direct Championship. In the meantime, they travel to Berwick for the corresponding meeting in Northumberland next Saturday (May 9).
